A 6 Day Christmas Tour
Wednesday 22 December – Monday 27 December, 2010
Our destination for our Xmas Tour this year is Goulburn – Australia’s first inland city. Situated in the scenic Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Goulburn is strategically located on the Sydney-Canberra corridor and provides a unique blend of city facilities and a country lifestyle. Our accommodation for the next 5 nights is at the Goulburn Heritage Motel which specialises in hosting groups. The Motel offers magnificent gardens, heritage style architecture and spacious rooms. Good accommodation, great country hospitality and interesting local touring – especially into the high country areas of southern NSW, will combine to create a memorable Christmas Holiday – and it wont be too hot!!!

Day 2 (BD): Exploring the Local Area (Thursday 23 December, 2010)
We enjoy some local touring today. A locally based guide will introduce us to Goulburn before a visit to St Savious Cathedral. The Cathedral is the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn. St. Saviour's has been a place of worship and ministry since the 1830s and continues to serve the city of Goulburn and the diocese. It is one of the most beautiful Gothic Cathedrals in Australia. After some free time for lunch we head over to Crookwell – a small historic town in the Southern Tablelands. It’s a picturesque spot which acts as a service and administrative centre for the rich agricultural and pastoral district that surrounds it. Again, using a locally based guide, we will be introduced to the main attractions and history of the area. Then we head back to Goulburn and once again the bar will be open prior to dinner. (Breakfast & dinner in the motel/Lunch own arrangements and cost)

Day 3 (BLD): Country Hospitality (Friday 24 December, 2010)
After breakfast this morning we have planned a visit to Garroorigang Homestead. It’s a fascinating place. Originally an Inn (1857-1868), then a private school (1868-1886), Garroorigang has been the private home of the Hume family for over a century. Mr Hume was Goulburn's well known historian, and a collateral descendant of explorer Hamilton Hume. The house features an exquisite Victorian drawing room, a collection of Victorian kitchenware, relics of the convict and bushranging eras and Australiana. We travel back to the motel for a light lunch before our afternoon visit to the Mt Wayo Lavender Farm – just 15 minutes north west of Goulburn. This is a diversified working farm with an historic pub. We can enjoy a walk through the gardens and enjoy a free cup of tea or coffee. And at this time of the year the lavender will be in bloom. (Breakfast & dinner in the motel/Lunch motel)

Day 5 (BLD): Canberra (Sunday 26 December, 2010)
After a leisurely breakfast we will take a drive into Canberra for some sightseeing. We take the Federal Highway, past Lake George and into the National Capital. On arrival we visit Mt Ainslie. The views across Lake Burley Griffin are breathtaking. Canberra is a truly unique city and one of only a few planned cities in the world. We have chosen two attractions to visit. First is Old Parliament House – now known as the Museum of Australian Democracy. One of the current exhibits is the Prime Ministers of Australia Exhibition. Then we transfer to the National Portrait Gallery building, situated on King Edward Terrace, bounded by the High Court of Australia and the National Gallery of Australia. It is the most significant building to be constructed in the Parliamentary precinct for over twenty years and opened to the public on the 4 December 2008. We have some free time for a picnic lunch before we continue to Queanbeyan and make our afternoon stop in the delightful village of Bungendore. We stop at the Bungedore Visitors Centre and have some time to explore a few of the local craft shops before taking the inland road via Lake Bathurst, back to Goulburn. (Breakfast & dinner in the motel/picnic lunch supplied)
